Twitter is a micro blogging platform
Flickr is a photo sharing platform
Sad Statements is mash up of the two.

Sad statements are grabbed from twitter and illustrated via pictures from flickr. Sometimes the pictures and the text are not a good match for each other. Other times the match seems profound

Why ( What inspires this work)

Three things:

1. Random but sometimes poetic computer generated spam that arrives in my inbox
2. Garkov – Garfield comic filled with markoved text
3. The AI system in count zero (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Count_Zero)

The character Marly Krushkhova in Count Zero is hired by an elusive billionaire to track down the creator of Joseph Cornel style boxes. Eventually she tracks down an AI system gone nuts in abandoned space station fashioning the most beatiful peices of art out of random peices of garbage floating around in the zero gravity of the space station.

It has been years since I read the book so my synopsis may not be entirely accurate. However the chapter where Marly meets the creator of the artwork is quite beautiful and I hope this quickly hacked together mash up can capture some of the beauty of the AI art william gibson imagined.
